CRICKET NO-BALL RULE
CHANGE PLANNED BY M.C.C. fN.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. April 20. The M.C.C. may shortly alter the noball rule to prevent bowlers from dragging over the line, according to a letter from the secretary of the dub, Mr R. Aird, to the Sydney "Sun.” Last month the ’‘Sun” sent to the M.C.C. copies of the photographs of the fast bowlers, Frank Tyson and P. Crawford, showing that both had bowled eight no-balls in one over.
The photographs were taken during the New South Wales v. M.C.C. match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on February 18 and 19.
Cricketers and experts generally then said that it was Impossible to detect noballs, because the umpire could not watch the bowler’s feet and hands at the same time. Now the M.C.C. may do something to rectify this, the "Sun” says. Mr Aird, in a letter dated March 15 to the newspaper's sporting editor, says, in part: "The M.C.C. has decided to consider the whole question of drag and Law 26, and to- carry out certain experiments in the spring. *T can assure you that a great deal of thought is being given to this matter. "Possibly, in the near future, there may be some alteration to Law 26, which, as it stands now, is almost unworkable.”
