Six Rotorua Carpenters Fly To And From Work

(New Zealand Press Association)

ROTORUA, April 20. Six Rotorua carpenters have had the unusual tut pleasant experience of being flown from the town almost on to the site of their work at Galatea in the last four working days. It has also proved an economical practice for their employer, Mr’ A. C. Crawford, who estimates that by saving travelling time he is having the job completed in half the usual time.

Mr Crawford had four men boarded for two months at Galatea while constructing a new classroom at the school, and they returned to their homes recently. As there was only finishing work to be done to complete the job, Mr Crawford decided to fly the men to Galatea, where the aerodrome is just opposite the job. The cost of flying the men in two aeroplanes is £lB, plus the travelling time amounting to 275. Road travel would cost £lO 16s in travelling time and £5 10s for the vehicle at Is a mile, a total of £l6 6s. Had Mr Crawford been able to engage an aircraft suitable for taking all h»\ n }, en to . the i° b . tb e cost would have been about £l6.
