N.Z. MOTORISTS

Sir, —The report in this morning’s issue of “The Press” that New Zealand has second position on the list of motorised nations has me puzzled. It can only mean that those square things with a wheel at each corner, which move along the North road on a Sunday afternoon, are being glorified by the name motor-car. These vehicles have long forfeited the right to be described as such. I think that the Transport Department has got a good cheek to refer to these monstrosities as motor-cars and thereby 7et New Zealand second on the world ist. The American who buys each wear’s new model could hardly be Mattered to find it compared with those hings which roam the New Zealand oads.—Yours, etc., GENEVIEVE. April 18, 1955.
