NURSERY PLAY CENTRES
REFRESHER COURSE OPENS TODAY
The annual refresher course of the Christchurch Nursery Play Centres’ Association will open this morning in the education laboratory, at Canterbury University College, and will continue until Friday. Mr J. H. Finlayson, convenor of the staff and education sub-committee of the association, will welcome the delegates and speak on the purpose of the course. Arrangements have been made for afternoon observation visits to Merivale, Peterborough, Cashmere and Somerfield centres.
Delegates from the West Coast centres include Mrs Curragh and Mrs Anderson (Waimangaroa), Mrs Farrell (Westport), Mrs Gillaly (Runanga), Mrs Stevenson and Mrs McCabe (Ngakawau), Mrs J. Brown and Mrs K. Walshe (Granity), and Mrs Oldham (Denniston). Mrs T. Rushton will represent the Timaru centre. Representatives from the following country centres will also be present: Waikari, Kaikoura, Hanmer Springs. Hawarden, Darfield, Amberley, Leeston. Akaroa and Diamond Harbour. This evening parents and interested persons will hear an address given by Professor Marguerite Burnham, associate professor of education at Newhaven State Teachers’ College, in the Teachers’ College. Professor Burnham will speak on what children need in adults.
