COMPULSORY STOPS

Sir,—l would like to know why the Transport Department is continually prosecuting motorists for failing to stop at compulsory stop signs. The word "compulsory” is not painted on the roadway or on the yellow sign; therefore, I contend they have no right to use it. I fail to see how this department has been able to get away with this so long by usins the’ word “compulsory” when charging offending motorists. All that appears on the roadway, and sign is “stop.” The Railways Department has signs erected at certain crossings with the words “stop, compulsory,” therefore the same wording should be painted on these signs which have been erected at intersections by the Transport Department. —Yours, etc., MOTORIST.
