N.Z. SQUADRON IN MALAYA
FAMILIES TO ARRIVE NEXT MONTH (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 18. The families of men serving with No. 14 Squadron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force in Malaya are due at Singapore on May 16 by ship from Cyprus, the squadron’s former base. R.N.Z.A.F. Headquarters received a signal to this effect in Wellington today. It said that about half the squadron’s men and aircraft had already been moved from Cyprus to Malaya. A Hastings transport aircraft carrying three of the squadron’s officers and 31 of its airmen arrived at Singapore from Cyprus last Thursday. The officer commanding the squadron (Squadron Leader N. Bright), with three of his officers and 30 airmen, arrived at Singapore on April 9. They were met by the Senior Air Staff Officer of the Far East Air Force (Air Vice-Marshal A. D. Gillmore) and the commander of the Royal Air Force station at Tengah, Singapore (Group Captain N. Stokes). The section of the squadron in Malaya has been doing limited flying while waiting for the rest of the squaddon to arrive.
