U.N. SECURITY COUNCIL
MOVE FOR BIGGER MEMBERSHIP N.Z. GOVERNMENT’S ATTITUDE . (New Zealand Press Association) wu .WELLINGTON, April 18. when the United Nations Charter came up for revision next September New Zealand would be prepared to support a move to widen representation on the Security Council, which has five permanent and six nonpermanent members, a source close to the Government told the New Zealand Press Association tonight. For some time it had been felt that the total membership of 11 on the Security Council did not give all groups adequate representation, thi source said. New Zealand would be agreeable to a greater Asian voice on the Security Council, but not at the expense of weakening British Commonwealth representation. New Zealand would pre* fer to see an increase in the nonpermanent membership of the Security Council so that an Asian bloc could be given representation. The permanent members of the Security Council are the United States Britain, the Soviet Union, France, and Nationalist China. The non-perman-ent members are Europe (one seat), South America (two seats), British Commonwealth (one), Arab bloc (one). Soviet satellite bloc (one).
