Mrs T. M. Watson (Southland) will arrive in North Canterbury tomorrow to address the annual meeting of the North Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes at Sefton on Wednesday morning. She wilt return south later in the day. Mrs Watson returned to the Dominion some weeks ago after representing all countrywomen of New Zealand on a goodwill tour of Britain, sponsored by the Imperial Relations Trust. Mrs B. L. Mrs Janet Williams, Mrs Arthur Rose, and Mrs Gilbert Grigg will leave today for Wellington to attend a meeting of the central executive committee of the Plunket Society. Mrs Campbell (Berkshire, England) is visiting her sister, Mrs Gordon Blaxall, St. Andrew’s square. Mrs Elaxall’s daughter, Mrs’St. John Warren, will arrive in Christchurch today to spend a month with her parents. Miss M. Elliott, Miss K. Shand, and Mrs J. R. Foxton (Dunedin), Mesdames H. Coxhead, I. D. James, N. A. Mitchell. A. B. Park, and Miss M. Kennard (all of Timaru) will play in the Canterbury provincial golf tournament that will open at the Shirley course tomorrow.

The annual tennis match between past and present pupils of Villa Maria College for the Standring Challenge Cup was played at the college on Saturday. The winners were the pre-sent-day pupils, on whose behalf Therese Honore received the cup from Mrs J. Standring, who is president of the old girls’ association. Mrs E. Jacobsen presided at the annual meeting of the Spreydon Plunket Mothers’ Club. The following officers were elected; chairman, Mrs R. Street; vice-president, Mrs G. Laurie; secretary, Mrs A. Members of the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Women Teachers* Association arranged a very enjoyable social which on Friday evening in the Teachers’ College. Specially invited guests were the senior women students at the Teachers’ College, of whom about 106 were present, and also 30 students of homecraft. Miss M. V. Kennedy, women’s warden at the college, introduced the students to the president (Miss C. F. Miller) who warmly welcomed them. After a short business meeting a programme of music and gay novelty items provided lively entertainment. The pretty print which won top approval in New York during the summer is being introduced to the traditional wedding dress. CHRISTCHURCH WELSH SOCIETY e . was a record attendance at the Christchurch Welsh Society’s annual general meeting on Saturday. Tne president (Mr R. Wynne Owen), in reviewing the year’s work, said there was a big increase in membership, and the programmes had been of a high standard. pefyd L Williams (honorary auditor), in presenting the balancesheet, congratulated the society and said that, in spite of rising costs, the year had been a very successful one financially. The president made a presentation to the retiring treasurer, Mr W. J. Roberts, as an appreciation of his faithful service as treasurer for the last 10 years, and for the able manner in which he had represented the society as leader of the overseas Welsh at the Royal National Eisteddfod last year. Mr Roberts gave an interesting address on the highlights of three eisteddfods he attended while in Wales, with special Welsh recordings which were presented to him by the 8.8.
