Trip From Harewood To Whenuapai
OLDEST PASSENGER BY N.A.C. SERVICES “The Press’* Special Service
AUCKLAND, April 17. The oldest passenger to be carried by the National Airways Corporation, Mr James Brodie, aged 98. of Christchurch, arrived at Whenuapai on Saturday afternoon, suffering no ill effects from his long flight. Mr Brodie was met by his granddaughter, Mrs D. B. Lang, and her husband, of Mount Eden. It was Mr Brodie’s third flight—he made his first at the age of 95—and although he has never been affected by flying, he prefers to keep his feet on the ground. “I thinly I’m a little too old to get used to the idea,” he said. . However, he thinks that it is the best way for a man of his age to travel long distances. Mr Brodie has a son in Christchurch, and spends the summers there, and the winters in Auckland with Mr and Mrs Lang. Previously, he made the trip between Christchurch and Auckland by boat and train, but then he decided that the journey took too long, and has since flown.
Mr Brodie, who came to New Zealand from Scotland in is a great-great-grandfather. He has 11 grandchildren, about 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
