NEWS FOR WOMEN AUTUMN MEETING AT RICCARTON
WARM COATS WORN ON FINAL DAY
The Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting, on its third and last day at the Riccarton course on Saturday, was one of splendid racing with good fields of beautiful horses and many exciting finishes. The sixty-third race for the Challenge Stakes was the main attraction on the programme, but interest and excitement were provided for patrons until the finish of the last race.
From a woman’s point of view, the only fault to be found with the outing was the strong cold wind that blew all the afternoon and called for the cosy comfort of warm coats, and many smart ones appeared on the stands. Very attractive were those of flecked tweeds, often with dark collars, and worn with small hats, repeating the dominant colour in the coats.
Mrs Gilbert Grigg, wife of the chairman of the club committee, wore a grey tailored suit, a chic little velour hat to match, and a coat of grey, brown and black tweed with black wlvet collar.
