FIRE DAMAGES TRUCK

Fire badly damaged a light truck owned by the Christchurch Gas Company about 7.15 pm. on Saturday. A compressor and small petrol engine mounted on the truck, which was parked in a yard behind the company’s offices in Oxford terrace, were burnt out.

Coils of rubber hosing attached to the compressor burned fiercely and gave off clouds of smoke which quickly drew a large crowd into the narrow alleyway.
