TALL WOMEN CLAIM ADVANTAGES
SURVEY BY AMERICAN ORGANISATION
A small minority of American women—the 8 per cent, who are upwards of sft Bin tall—have inade a controversial statement which should bring their shorter sisters up oh their toes. t
The tall girls announce that they get better jobs than the shorter ones, and back this up by pointing to the leading tall girl of America —Mrs Clare Booth Luce, United States Ambassador to Italy, who is sft Bin tall.
In a survey conducted by the Tall Girls’ Council, an organisation sponsored by Lane Bryant, a women’s speciality store catering exclusively for tall girls, 600 young women up to 6ft 3in tall reported that they had the advantage on making first impressions on prospective employers. “My boss took one look at me over the heads of the other applicants and said, ‘You’re big enough, anyway’,” said one six-foot executive secretary.
Tall girls are in demand as mannequins, and their height aids them to dress well in professions where good dressing is an asset. The group has one major complaint about its height. “There aren’t nearly enough tall men in this world,” they say.
