WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Christchurch.—Mrs R. G. Wolff presided at the February meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Division of Federated farmers. Motions of sympathy were passed with Mrs I. L. M. Coop ,in the loss of her husband. the relatives of the late Mr H. A. Nutt and Miss Desborough in th‘e loss of her brother. Mrs Wolff, who is leaving for a trip overseas, was presented with flowers. Mrs H. B. Clark will be president in Mrs Wolff’s absence. Competitions resulted as . follows:—large bloom: Mis Foley 1, Mrs Mason 2, Mrs Burrell 3. Small bloom: Mrs Mason 1, Mrs Foley 2. Large cluster: Mrs Denham 1, Mrs Mason 2, Mrs Foley 3. Small cluster: Mrs Mason 1.

Bangiora.—Two new members were welcomed at the February meeting of the Rangiora branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Loffhagen was in the chair. A motion of sympatny was passed to the relatives of the late Mrs Ashby. It was agreed to send a letter to Mrs Uru congratulating her on receiving a 12 years' service medal from the St. John Ambulance Brigade. The lady superintendent of the Christchurch Public Hospital wrote thanking the brancn J° r i a 8 l£t of scrap books. The ClarkvilleEast Eyreton branch wrote inviting members to attend its twentieth birthday party. Arrangements were made for the inter-provincial conference and for the entertainment of delegates. The meeting discussed remits for the inter-pro-ymcial conference. Mrs Dench and Mrs l. Smith won the monthly competitions. Competition results were as follows.— large bloom: Mrs Jarden 1. Port Levy.—Mrs Ford presided at the monthly meeting of the Port Levy branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. A letter was received from the Fem street settlement thanking members P arce l* Mrs Ford read the report of the provincial executive meeting, and the remits for the conference at Rangiora. •Mrs Coop read a letter from the Austrian girl sponsored by the branch. Guy) at the February meeting of the Yaldhurst branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Arrangements were made to attend the group picnic at Dunsandel, at the end of the month, and the the inter-provincial conference at Rangiora in March. Gifts were made to the Housekeeper fund, the provincial building fund and the special fund. Miss Dunne, of the Health Department, gave an interesting talk on the work of the department, and offered to show films at a later date. Carleton-Bennetts.—The February meeting of the Carleton-Bennetts branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held at the home of Mrs R. Mehrtens. Members discussed arrangements for a bus trip to Christchurch in April. Nominations were received for officers for the annual meeting. Mrs J. Thompson presided. The following were the competition results:—Three tomatoes: Mrs R. Reed 1 and 2, Mrs Skurr 3. Bowl of dahlias: Mrs Thompson 1, Mrs McKeage 2 and 3. Child’s print frock: Mrs Harding 1. Mrs Jeal 2, Mrs Beer 3.. Ric carton.—Mrs H. E. Hamilton presided at the March meeting of the Riccarton branch of Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Townsend, a member of the branch who is leaving to live in Wellington was presented with a posey of ever lasting flowers. The guest speaker (Mrs Abbott), gave a interesting talk on the life of Women in India. Competition winners were:—Mesdames R. A. Ambridge, Anderson, Black, Cole, Dines. A. Irwin, Joseph, Kirkwood, Palmer. Roseveare, Rickman, Smee, Westaway and Miss Turner.

Avonhead.—Members of the Avonhead Women’s Division of Federated Farmers met at “Hawthomdene” for the first meeting of the year. The president (Mrs H. G. Riches) spoke oft the Provincial meeting and on the conference to be held at Rangiora in March. A new member (Mrs Cridge) was welcomed. For its birthday party Avonhead will have an evening party where films taken by two members will be shown. As a special effort towards "Save the Children” funds, children of members will conduct a cake stall. Invitations to Hoon Hay and Rolleston birthday parties were accepted. For the competition an envelope was addressed by each member at the meeting and winners will be announced at the next meeting.
