Egypt Pledges Restraint

(Rec. 10 p.m.) CAIRO, April 12. An Egyptian spokesman said today that Egypt would try.-to restrain her forces along the Gaza Strip border in order to reduce the tension there. Lieutenant-Colonel Ahmed Aboul Fetouh, Director for Palestine Affairs af the Egyptian War Ministry, said that the United Nations Chief Truce Observer for Palestine (General Edeson Burns) had cabled the Egyptian Government urging this. Colonel Fetouh said that Egypt would never object to such a call because she had always respected the armistice and the United Nations decisions —a fact which was admitted by United Nations observers. Israel’s Complaints to U.N. A New York message said that Israel today asked that consideration of its complaint against Egypt’s alleged “repeated” border violations should be resumed by the United Nations Security Council “with the utmost urgency.” Mr Abba Eban, the Israeli representative, in a letter to the President of the Security Council, said the tension created by Egyptian assaults was mounting, and the armistice was gravely threatened.
