Milk Powder Export To Canada

(N2. Press Association —Copyright) OTTAWA, February 22. A Canadian dairy produce official said today he was afraid that lowpriced surplus milk powder from Australia and New Zealand might be imported into Canada, threatening the future of Canadian producers.

The official, Mr James Jenkins, President of the Ontario Concentrated Milk Prouceas’ Association, said in a prepared address that Australia’s milk powder production was so big that factories there were closing. The British market was glutted with the surplus. There was nothing to prevent Jhe import of milk powder from Australia and New Zealand coming into Canada and therefore low-priced production from these countries was a “constant threat” to Canadian producers, he said. “Our industry should be protected against the import of any dairy products as long as there is an adequate supply in Canada,” he said.
