The Quartermaster-General (Brigadier C. E. Weir) will arrive in Christchurch by air today. He will visit Godley Head, where the 151 Composite Anti-Aircraft Battery is holding its annual camp. Later in the day he will travel to Balmoral Camp, Lake Tekapo. He will spend Thursday inspecting several units which are holding their camps at Lake Tekapo before returning to Wellington on Thursday evening.
Brigadier L. W. Thornton returned to New Zealand yesterday from London to become Quartermaster-General of the Army and Third Member of the Army Board. He will succeed Brigadier C. E. Weir, who will become Chief of the General Staff next August.—(P.A.)
Major F-. W. K. Ainge returned to Wellington in the Rangitane yesterday to take up an appointment at the headquarters of the New Zealand Division. Linton. He was formerly secretary to the New Zealand Joint Services’ liaison staff in London. — (P.A.)
Major R. Kennedy, who has been Deputy-Assistant-Ad jutant and Quar-termaster-General with the New Zealand Army liaison staff in London, returned in the Rangitane yesterday. He will go to the Army Schools, Waiouru.—P.A.)
Mr F. H. Wright, who succeeds Professor N. C. Phillips as representative of the Christchurch West High School Board of Governors on the Christchurch Post-Primary Schools’ Council, attended his first meeting of the council last evening. He was welcomed by the chairman (Mr W. J. Cartwright). Mr E. J. Bradshaw was installed as Mayor of Riccarton at last evening’s meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council. Tributes to the former Mayor (Mr H. S. S. Kyle) were paid by councillors, and a motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr Kyle was carried.
