FIVE INJURED IN COLLISION
CARS MEET HEAD-ON
FOUR OF ONE FAMILY IN HOSPITAL (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, February 22. Five persons, including four of one family, were injured in a head-on collision between two cars on the ElthamStratford State highway, about half a mile south of the Ngaere School, about 5.30 p.m. today. All five were taken to the Stratford Public Hospital. The four members of the one family are William McKendrick, of Clifford road, Eltham, his wife, Patricia, their daughter, Rena, aged about five, and their son, Peter, aged about three and a half.
The injured driver and sole occupant of the other car is Thomas Taunt, of Palmer road, Kaponga. All except Mr McKendrick were reported to be seriously injured. The bonnets of both vehicles were almost completely smashed in. Part of the seating of Mr McKendrick’s car had to be removed before the injured could be lifted out.
