Miss G. Ellen, head typist and records clerk in the M.E.D., will retire on March 24. During her service with the M.E.D. she has been senior typist, and has been in charge of the typists’ room. Appreciation of her very valuable service has been placed on record by the City Council, which has wished her many years of retirement. Misses S. M. Koesnijah (Indonesia) and B. Tha U (Burma), who have spent 16 months in Wellington, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Gisborne, and Rotorua doing a post-graduate nursing course, left Harewood yesterday morning by air for Sydney. They came to New Zealand under the World Health Organisation travelling scheme, and will do public health work on their return. They consider that the scheme is doing much to improve health in their countries, and that they will be able to do ( valuable work. The annual meeting of the McKenzie Free Kindergarten was held in the new kindergarten, Rattray street. The speaker was Mr C. A. Korndbrffer, Netherlands Immigration Officer in Christchurch, who spoke on “Experiences in New Zealand.”. The following officers were elected:—patron, Sir John McKenzie; president, Mrs R. Jones; vice-presidents, Mrs J. R. Pirie, Mrs C. R. Irvine, and Mrs K. Staples; secretary, Mrs S. D. Stanley; treasurer, Mrs E. Cross; registrar, Mrs K. Staples; committee, Mesdames A. Austin, M. L. Hancock, J. Milson, L. Kissell, W. Tanner, S. Niven, D. Wilson, and A. Wilson.
