WOMAN SHOOTING ENTHUSIAST
REGULAR ENTRANT AT N.Z. MEETINGS Mjs E. Glynn, of Auckland, affectionately known as “Grandma,” is one of the best-known shooters at the national championships now being held at Trentham. Now competing in her twenty-first national meeting, she has never qualifled for the final 50, but when competing in the Australian championships a few years ago, she achieved this distinction. “I suppose that should indicate that New Zealanders are better rifle shots than Australians,” she commented. Mrs Glynn’s looks belie her years. Trim and pert, she is just “one of the boys.” Typical of the spirit that spurs many to attend year in and year out. Mrs Glynn’s great ambition at the moment is to qualify for the final 50. She has been fifty-first, fifty-third, fifty-fifth, and fifty-seventh. A fortnight ago she tied with E. R. Poulgrain (Akarana) for the Waikato rifle championship, but was beaten in the shoot-off. Mrs Glynn considers team shoots the greatest feature of the sport. ‘‘You have to do mighty well to get into a lot of our best teams,” she said.
