Qantas To Buy More Britannias
LONDON, February 22 The general manager of Qantas Empire Airways (Mr C. O. Turner) told a press conference in London today that his company had increased its original order of six Britannias to an unspecified number equipped with the new Bristol supercharged turbo-prop 8E25 engines. The tentative delivery date is 1959-60.
“But the aircraft will have to be pressure-tested in a water tank in accordance with the findings of the recent inquiry into the Comet crashes, and that will take time,” he said.
