PAPANUI HIGH SCHOOL
ROLL OF 616 THIS YEAR The roll of the Papanui High School for 1955 was 616—62 more than last year, said the principal (Mr L. B. Newton) in his report to the monthly meeting of the school board yesterday. Mr Newton said the board should be well satisfied with the performance of fifth-form pupils in mathematics in last year’s school certificate examination. In one form of 28, 22 of whom were third-year pupils, the average mark obtained in mathemaitcs was 70.2 per cent. The top boy gained 93 per cent.; 87 pupils had marks between 80 and 90 per cent., and 16 members of the form obtained more, than 70 per cent. Only two members failed to gain 50 per cent, of the marks. Some evening classes were already full, but it would be at least another week before total enrolments could be announced, said Mr Newton.
