TRIBUTE TO PETER THOMSON

“ HAS DONE MUCH FOR N.Z. GOLF” (Hew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 7. E afore Peter Thomson, who will return to Australia tomorrow, left Heretaunga, Mr G. P. Roberts, vicechairman of the New Zealand Golf Council, presented him with his prizemoney for being second professional in the open. Thomson, said Mr Roberts, had done much for New Zealand golf and had, raised it to the status of having its open champion of 1953 winning the British open this year.

In reply, Thomson said he would be entering for the New Zealand open championship next year and for many years to come. He hoped in time to encourage some of the American players to compete, so that the New Zealand open championship would become recognised as one of the most important championships in the world.
