VOTE-SPLITTING DEPLORED
MR HOLLAND SPEAKS AT WHANGAREI
“DANGEROUS POSITION” IN MARSDEN CONTEST
(New Zealand Preu Association) AUCKLAND, November 5. To divide the National Party votes between two candidates was to “let the other fellow go in between,’’ said the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) in Whangarei tonight. Mr Holland was speaking in support of the National Party candidate for Marsden, Mr D. McKay. His remarks referred to Mr W. R. Vallance. who is standing as an Independent Nationalist after having had his selection as National Party candidate revoked.
“In Mr McKay, you have a candidate of whom everyone in Whangarei can be justly proud,’’ said Mr Holland. “Every National Party supporter should think carefully before voting. I am much concerned because of the dangerous position that has arisen.
“The National Party leaves the selection of candidates in local hands. They sent Mr McKay’s nomination, and party headquarters endorsed him. 1 am entirely and all the way with Mr McKay, and entirely and all the way against anyone who is against him.” These remarks of the Prime Minister evoked cheers and applause from the 1000 persons present in the Town Hall.
