LETTERS SAID TO LOWER VALUE
BIRKENHEAD PROTEST "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, November 5. People of Orewa road, Birkenhead, are protesting against the Birkenhead Borough Council’s system of numbering houses in their street. The council decided recently to give numbers to “full frontage” sections, and or ”C" rotations after the numberfor ”ln abetter to the council, Mr W. C. Conley and 11 other residents in the street said they were prepared to take action in the Courts to effect the change required—if necessaryThey claimed that an A after toe house number would lower the value ° f Ejray’^d t ftontage was entitled to its own number, toe residentsl said It was toe democratic method of e<to al rights. A number followed by a letter would mean that a section would not be considered worthy of a number ofltS“Forn the life of me I cannot see how a person with an 'A' or ‘B after his street number feels that he has been slighted," said one councilor After some discussion it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the council’s public services committee.
