KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS
HANDWORK AND ART DISPLAY A display of art and handwork done by the senior and junior kindergarten students at the Kindergarten Training College, Park terrace, was opened yesterday. After the display, which closes today, many of the articles will be distributed among the kindergartens in Christchurch.
One of the outstanding features of the display was the collection of beautifully made and dressed white rabbit “dolls.” They all wore colourful summer frocks and dainty white aprons. There were also glove puppets made from felt for use in speech classes, dolls dressed in national costumes, and chubby gollywogs. The tables in each room at the college were filled with painted constructional toys made by the students at woodwork classes. These included boats, trains, and framed jig-saw puzzles of large pieces. Other examples of their work were reel boards for colour matching, mosaics, nursery rhyme book-ends, large patch-work play balls, and farm sets and cut-out animals for project work. Round the walls in the rooms were large gaily painted picture and cut-out posters of children at play, animals, characters in fairv stories, and seasons of the year. This year 12 parent-teacher groups of several of the kindergartens submitted entries for the United Parents’ Club tronhy. which was won bv Nuffield, with Sydenham second.
