PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY
SERVICE DURING MEETING (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 3. . Inducted last night as Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, the Rt. Rev. D. N. McDiarmid presided at a Communion and commemoration service celebrated in St. John’s Church during the church’s General Assembly meeting today. The Rev. Ivan Muir, - of Tauranga, Moderator’s chaplain, preached the sermon, speaking of the features of the Christian Church. Power, in its work and witness; grace, which was an expression of the love of God in action; and unity, which was able to reconcile humanly insuperable differences, were characteristic of the early Church and of the Church today when it was true to its Lord, said Mr Muir.
Delegates to the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union conference attended the service, in addition to the commissioners to the General Assembly. A memorial minute, commemorating ministers and members of the assembly who had died during the year, was passed by the assembly’s standing in silence.
