GUARANTEE WITH SWEDISH CARS
Makers To Meet Cost Of Repairs (Special Correspondent N,Z.P.A.) LONDON, Noveipber 2. The Swedish firm making Volvo cars has taken an initiative which is expected greatly to influence the Swedish small car market as well as the insurance business in Sweden, says the Stockholm correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian.” In future the buyer of a Volvo car gets a guarantee that every time his car is damaged all hosts of repairs exceeding 200 kronor (about £l3) will be paid by the company during the first five years. If the car becomes a total wreck the owner will be entitled to an entirely new car. Exceptions are damages caused by .fire, theft, or drunken driving.
Explaining this plan a company spokesman said it had been proved that the Volvo had an exceptionally low cost of repair because of its strong construction and its easily exchangeable parts. “The Volvo already enjoys a popularity in Scandinavia only matched by the German Volkswagen, and easily surpassing that of any British car,” says the correspondent. “Seventy thousand are in use in Sweden and the present production of 25,000 a year will next year be increased to 35,000.” Ida Lupino to Seek Divorce.—The film. star, Tda Lupino, today announced her separation from the actor, Howard Duff, and said she would sqe him for divorce. The couple were married in October, 1951. They have a two-year-old daughter, BridgetHollywood, November 2.
