THREE INJURED
CAR FALLS SOFT FROM ROAD (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, October 3. Two women and a girl were admitted to hospital after a light saloon car had somersaulted 80 feet from the Dunedin-Brighton road this afternoon. Those injured are:— Maude Burns, aged 53, of Karitane; injuries to face and left leg. Rhoda Mary Hastie, aged 34, of 4 Pennant street, Kaikorai; chest injuries and fracture of the right leg. Glenys Hastie, aged 10, daughter of Mrs Rhoda Hastie; fracture of the pelvis and lacerations of the left knee. The driver of the car, William Burns, aged about 60, of Karitane, suffered minor injuries, but was not admitted to hospital. The accident occurred at the height of a gale which swept coastal Otago during the day. As the car, which was returning from Brighton, was taking a sharp corner at Big Rock it went ’out of control, burst through a stout wooden railing, and crashed to the rocks below. The car was completely wrecked. Residents of the district rushed to the scene and extricated the occupants from the tangled wreckage. The injured persons were carried on stretchers up a steep track to ambulances.
