MAN KILLED ON MAIN SOUTH ROAD
STRUCK BY PASSING CAR A man was killed on the Main South road at Weedons when he was struck by a motor-car at 7.45 p.m. on Saturday. He was: Thomas Elkin Elliott, aged 49, a cartage contractor, of .24 Avonhead road, Upper Riccarton. According to the police, Mr Elliott, who was returning from Ashburton, had pulled up on the side of the road and had then walked in front of his car. When about to cross the road he was struck by a car being driven towards Christchurch by Mr Allan Bede Holmes, a horse trainer, of Yaldhurst road. Mr Elliott died almost immediately.
