WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY

UNITED YOUTH SERVICE IN CHRISTCHURCH A united youth service, arranged by the Christchurch regional youth committee of the National Council of Churches, was held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church yesterday afternon, to mark World Communion Sunday. The Rev. S. C .Francis, minister of St. Paul’s, presided, and the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) gave the address. The service was attended by a big congregation of young people. Mr D. Young (Church of Christ) read the first lesson and Miss A. Little (Baptist Church) read the second lesson. The chairman of the regional youth committee, the Rev. J. S. Vincent (Anglican Church) led the intercession, and the Te Wai Pounamu Girls’ Choir sang an anthem.

The purpose of the second assembly of the World Council of Churches, held at Evanston, recently, had been to draw each of the churches represented by delegates there into closer understanding of the others’ points of view and of the critical problems facing the world today, said Bishop Warren. The World Council of Churches had not been born for the glorv of man, but for the unity of Christ’s' Church, he said. “We delegates were stung to the quick by our disunity, and it will be. a long time before the gap can be bridged. God forbid that we ever become all alike; but God forbid that we remain in disunity,” said Bishop Warren.
