Pope’s Warning On Atom Warfare

CASTEL GANDOLFO, September 30. The Pope tonight warned doctors to have nothing to do with the develdp- | mept of atomic, bacteriological and chemical warfare. He was addressing 450 doctors assembled for the eighth meeting of the World Medical Association, representdng some 700.000 members throughout the world. 1 He said: “If ever such warfare can • be justified, if ever it is justified at all, [then the question of the doctors’ participation in it may be posed. But ?you will agree with us that one would | prefer not to see the doctor involved lin a task of this kind. It veers‘too ; violently from his timeless duty—to bring succour and cure, not to do ■wrong and kill.”
