PROTEST ABOUT DELAY
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, October 1. “The Otago provincial meat and wool section is gravely disturbed at the Government’s failure to promote a meat price support plan before the 1954-55 ekport season.” This telegram has been sent to the Minister of Agriculture (Mr K. J. Holyoake) by Mr T. Mcß. Burnside, chairman of the Otago meat and wool section of Federated Farmers. Mr Burnside said that the federation had consistently asked that pool funds be used to provide price supports for exports, and had rejected numerous other proposals for the use of these funds.
The federation also had been particularly anxious that a price-support plan employing these funds should be in. operation before the start of the 195455 meat export season, he said.
“Meat producers throughout Otago will be most disappointed to learn that this is not to be, and the most alarming feature of all is that the Government has given no indication whatever as to when even further consideration is to be given to a support plan/’ Mr Burnside said.
