WOMAN CONVICTED ON TWO CHARGES (From Our Own Reporter)

TIMARU. September 23. Charged with assaulting Kathleen Con- . nolly, Eva Gladys Clark, aged 24, was convicted and ordered to come up for 1 sentence if called upon within 12 months ! in the Magistrate’s Court, Timaru, to- • day. . Messrs W. H. Hall and W. Minehan. Justices of the Peace, were on the Bench. Senior-Sergeant B. W/ Wootton prosecuted. On a second charge, of driving a car in a dangerous manner. Clark was fined £5 and her driving licence was suspended for 28 days. Kathleen Connolly told the Court that after passing the accused’s home at about 10-20 p.m. she had heard a door open noisily and was then struck by fists on both shoulders from behind. She afterwards recognised her assailant as Clark. Accused, who was not represented by counsel, said in evidence that the quarrel was not of her making. She had been annoyed in the past by more than 200 people at various times coughing and making noises outside her bedroom, which was close to the street.
