CLINKER INJURE

AUSTRALIAN CAMPAIGN CANCELLED "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, September 23.

The brilliant Clinker has been injured, and will be off the active list for some time. His Wingatui ownertrainer, Mr D. P. Wilson, has cancelled arrangements for his intended trip to Australia for the spring racing. Clinker was injured in both off legs, and suffered a nasty gash on the elbow and cuts on the stifle. Both wounds are clean, and, unless complications set in, he should soon resume work. Apart from the time it will take for the wounds to heal, however, the break in his training will seriously interfere with his preparation at a vital stage. The Lo Zingaro gelding shares • a ■>addock with The Hob. It is presumed that he became entangled in a Tence during the night. An impressive win in the open sprint at the race trials at Wingatui early this month indicated that Clinker was well forward to begin his new season’s racing. He wqs withdrawn from his engagements for the second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting and the Geraldine meeting on Monday, before the declaration of handicaps. When the horse was injured, his owner was preparing his programme for the Trentham and New Zealand Cup meetings next month. Mr Wilson had intended to campaign Clinker in Australia this spring, but has now cancelled these plans. Clinker was weighted with Bst 81b in this year’s Melbourne Cup, to be run at Flemington on November 2. The Hob was handicapped at Bst 51b, and The Lum at 7st 21b. They were also entered in the Caulfield Cup and other major Australian races.
