PARKING METERS
LOCAL BODY POWERS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 23. The power of a council to instal parking meters and stands in streets is put beyond all doubt by an amendment circulated in the House of Representatives today for inclusion in the Municipal Corporations Bill. Another clause amends a provision dealing with the disposal of surface waters. The original bill authorised a council to lead any surface water in its natural state of purity into any stream or watercourse. The words, “in its natural state of purity, do not appear in the existing legislation, and it is proposed that they be omitted from the bill because of the difficulty likely to be experienced in certain circumstances by some local authorities in ensuring that no impure surface water finds its way into any stream or watercourse. The clause provides for this.
