ARE RABBITS PESTS ?
Sir, —New Zealanders have been educated to believe that rabbits are pests and a menace to our country. Under a Tory Government these socalled pests are increasing in price every week. Last week the price was 3s 9d per lb. I paid 4s 9d for one weighing l|lb. This just does not make sense. One day I noticed in a butcher’s window two little hind legs, with about three inches of back attached to them. The price asked was 3s. Perhaps his tail was on another dish at Is 6d for soup. In this shop a whole rabbit would cost 6s. What an important little animal the rabbit must be under a Tory Government. Of course, the Prime Minister believes in freedom. I presume I am free to start a rabbit farm.—Yours, etc., FREEDOM FOR ALL. September 23, 1954.
