GENERAL WAGE CLAIM
Court Fixture Likely Next Month EARLY DISCUSSION IN CHAMBERS
(New Zealand Preu Association) WELLINGTON, August 29. The application of the New Zealand Federation of Labour for a general wage increase, which was filed on Friday, is expected to be heard by the Arbitration Court about the middle of next month.
Discussion on a fixture will probably take place in chambers tomorrow or on Tuesday. The claim, filed in the name of the Wellington, Taranaki and Marlborough Clerical Workers’ Union, is for a 10 per cent, increase in wages, with a maximum increase of £1 Is 8d a week. It is understood that an earlr date for the hearing has been requested. Members of the Court are scheduled to go to Auckland on September 6 for about a week or 10 days. However the length of the Auckland sitting may depend on the date set for the general wage increase hearing.
