Delinquents Ordered To “Happy Homes”
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 26. Naughty children in a .part of Worcestershire are being ordered by Juvenile Court Magistrates to spend up to a year in a happy, private home. The idea of this intensive course for reforming juvenile delinquents comes from Miss Mary Wicks, Probation Officer for Kidderminster. Eight families are taking children; into homes. Each child becomes part of a new family for the time ordered. The child may even live, in the same town as the parents and go to the usual school, but the usual practice is to join the school, church, and youth organisation attended by the children of the “host” and “hostess.” Parents are encouraged to visit children during “treatment.” Among the “host” families are those of businessmen, a vicar, and a Juvenile Court Magistrate.
