Kiddey. i Smith and Thomas were prominent in the early stages of the match, when South Island was on attack, with J. Kiddey, on the left wing, making some good runs. Each side was awarded two penalty corners but neither could capitalise. J. Stirling had a shot, but Goldsmith cleared well. North Island broke away and A. Hayde, showing smart stickwork, netted, but the goal was disallowed. Hayde made a good run for North Island and passed to D. Tooby, who beat the South goalkeeper with a welltimed flick shot. In the second half. South Island’s first goal came from a penalty bully against T. Moresby, who obstructed J. Stirling when the latter was in a scoring position.
