FAREWELL SOCIAL AT SOUTHBRIDGE

MR AND MRS L. G. E ADE HONOURED Mr L. G. Eade, who is to take up the position of town clerk at Akaroa on Wednesday, was, with Mrs Eade and their two daughters, entertained at a farewell social in the Southbridge Town Hall. Mr Eade acted for a number of years as clerk to the Southbridge Town Board and was associated for nearly 30 years with the SouthbridgeChristchurch road passenger service. Tributes to the work done by Mr and Mrs Eade were paid by Dr. M. M. Bums (Canterbury Agricultural College, and Lincoln residents), the Rev. F. A. Hume (Southbridge and Horticultural Society), Messrs F. A. Bishop (Ellesmere Musical Society), H. D. Jones (Leeston residents), L. J. B. Chapple (Southbridge School), H. G. Hubbard (Day’s Motors), A. A. Peterson (Southbridge residents), D. H. Goulden (Southbridge Town Board and Volunteer. Fire Brigade) and Mrs G. M. Doyle (Plunket Society and Garden Club). From the residents of Southbridge and other people on the bus route to Christchurch the chairman (Mr T. T. McMillan) presented Mr and Mrs Eade with a silver tea service and cheque. Mrs Doyle gave Mrs Eade a, sheaf of flowers and from the fire brigade Mr Eade received a portfolio case. A fountain pen was the gift of the Town Board to Mr Eade, and the two daughters received from the residents English pottery. On Friday evening Mr and Mrs Eade were bidden farewell at a large gathering in the Methodist CJiurch Hall at Leeston. Speakers from different parts of the district praised Mr Eade’s work as choirmaster, Sunday school superintendent and lay preacher. A canteen of cutlery was presented to him by Mr E. B. Ford.
