TEMUKA TIMARU RACE K. E. WILLIAMS BREAKS RECORD (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, August 29. Honours in the Temuka to Timaru harrier race on Saturday were shared by K. E. Williams (Christchurch Club) and J. Sprague (Leith Club, Dunedin). Williams, the only scratch runner in the field of 100 ran the Hi miles to 56min 13sec—55Sec less than George Austin’s 1936 record. Williams finished seventh. Sprague (6mln) was running well within himself over the first mile and finished 300 yards ahead of M. Darling (Dunedin,

SOUTH ISLAND JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
(New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, August 29. The winner of the New Zealand junior cross-country championships at Auckland the week before, B. Stanilord (North Otago), had an easy win In the South Island Junior cross-country championship 'held at Centennial Park on Saturday. Staniford’s time tor the 31 mllea wa, 18 minutes 49 seconds. ' In a field ot 83. Stanltord gained an early lead and won by 200 yards from W. Carstairs (St. Kilda). P. Kennedy, of Waimate, who ran tor Marist. Chrlatchurch, was third. Timaru Presbyterian won the Tweedie Cup for the teams’ race. The team was M. McMurray, B. Scott, J. Keenan, and J. Hughes. Results:— ' B. Stanford (North Otago), IBmln 49 sec. 1; W.
