Mrs Townshend account of some of the lectures she had attended at a recent residential courae at Lincoln College. Competition results were:—table decoration other than flowers, not more than six inches high: Mrs Baxter 1 Mrs Cooper 2, Mrs Mclntyre 3. Large bloom: Mrs Baxter 1 and 2. Small bloom: Mrs Mangles 1, Mrs Campbell *2 and 3. Large cluster: Mrs Bull 1, Mrs Campbell 2 and 3. Small cluster: Mrs Adams 1, Miss Reed 2, Mrs Mangles 3. Shrub: Miss Reed 1, Mrs Baxter 2, Miss Reed 3.

Pines Beach—Mrs Martin presided at the monthly meeting of the Pines Beach Women’s Institute which was well attended. Members contributed babies’ feeders for the children’s ward in the Public Hospital. Final arrangements were made for the fifth birthday party. Miss O. G. Murgatroyd gave an instructive demonstration on the making of skin and fur gloves. Competition results were as follows:—large bloom: Mrs Taylor 1. Mrs Hawkins 2, Mrs Weastell 3. Small bloom: Mrs Weastell 1, Mrs Mclntosh 2, Mrs Turton 3. Spike'bloom: Mrs Neale 1, Mrs Hawkins 2, Mrs Taylor 3. Indoor bloom: Mrs Dodge 1, Mrs Neale 2, Mrs Weastell 3. Hillsborough-Heathcote.—Mrs H. Petheram presided at the July meeting of the Hillsborough-Heathcote Country Women's Institute. Birthday sprays were presented. The guest for the afternoon was Mrs Holmes, who gave an interesting demdngtration of winter floral decorations. The competition results were as follows: Small Igoom: Mrs G. Ranglora.—Mrs McCullough presided, over the July meeting of the Rangiora Country Women’s Institute. Invitations were received for birthday parties at Ohoka and Waikuku Beach. Mrs A. Thompson gave a report on a group meeting held in Rangiora. Two items were sung by the. institute glee group. A report of the conference of institutes was given by Mrs Lang. Competitions resulted as follows:—Large bloom: Mrs Munro 1, Mrs Hare 2. Small bloom: Mrs Munro 1, Mrs Watson 2, Mrs Purvis 3.! Spike or cluster: Mrs Purvis 1. Miss W. Lander 2, Mrs Munro 3. Shortbread: Mrs Munro 1, Mrs Hockey 2, Mrs Mathews 3. -Sefton-Kowal.—lt was reported at the monthly meeting of the Sefton-Ko wai Country Women’s Institute that fruit and flowers had been sent to members in hospital. The Rev.,Parr gave an instructive talk on his experiences as a padre iq the Army of Occupation in Japan. Hornby.—Mrs Hill presided at the monthly meeting of the Hornby Country Women’s Institute. An interesting talk wa&, given by a member of the Health Department.
