WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

Springfield.—Mrs C. Campbell presided over a good attendance at the June meeting of the Springfield Country Woman's Institute. Accident in the home was the subject of a talk given by Dr. J. W. Avery. A new member, Mrs A. Kelly, was welcomed. Hostesses were Mesdames Wright And Harris. Competitions resulted as follows Small bloom: Mrs P. Kelly 1, Mrs Gee 2, Mrs Doyle 3. Large- bloom: Mrs Doyle 1, Mrs P. Kelly 2. Spike: Mrs Doyle 1, Mrs P. Kelly 2. Iced chocolate cake: Mn Doyle 1, Mrs Wright 2. Hot water bottle cover: Mrs Doyle 1, Mrs Johnston 2. Mrs P. Kelly, Mrs Wright, and Mrs Gee (equal) 3. Mrs Doyle won the button for most points. Burwood*—Mrs Cusack presided at a meeting of the Burwood Country Women’s Institute. Mn Burney, a new member, was welcomed. Birthday sprays were presented to five members. An interesting demonstration on basketmaking was given by Mrs Hislop. ParnaMus.—The monthly meeting of the Parnassus branch of the Womenis Institute was held in the home of Mrs Wilkinson. Members enjoyed films shown by Mrs W. Wilkinson. A. parcel of bed socks made by the members was handed in. for the Jubilee Home. Results of competitions Mrs Walton 1, Mrs Wilkinson 2. Laixe bloorm Mrs Wilkinson 1, Mrs Stevenson 2. Small bloom: Mrs Wilkinson 1 Mrs Foster 3. Little Biver Groi4>. —The twenty-fourth birthday party of the Little River group of the Country Women’s Institute took the form of a social and dance. Two sketches and two items were given by four members of the 3rd Armoured Division. Sprays were -presented to the visitors by the past-president (Mrs Joblin), assisted by Mrs McAuliffe. The birthday cake was made and cut by the president (Mrs Grant).
