CLEAR SPRINGS WINS AT FLEMINGTON
(N.Z. Press Association—CopyriOht) (Rec. 8 p.m.) MELBOURNE. August 22. A three-year-old colt. Clear Springs, led throughout to win the weight-for-age J. J. Liston Stakes by two and a half lengths at Flemington yesterday. He beat Victoria’s best horses, Cromis and King Boru. His win was so convincing that experts hailed him as another Ajax. Result:— J. J. LISTON STAKES. Of £1250. Weight-for-age. Seven furlongs. CLEAR SPRINGS 7-11 R. Hutchinson 1 Cromis 9-0 J. Purtell 3 King Boru 8-11 J. Gilmore 3 Eighteen started. Two and a half lengths; one and a half lengths. Time, Imin 264 sec. Betting: 7-2, 7-2, 11-2. C.J.C. APPRENTICE TRIALS Because of the need to restore the Riccarton track, the Canterbury Jockey Club has obtained permission from the Banks Peninsula Racing Club to hold its apprentice trials On the Motukarara racecourse on September 3. The programme is at present being drawn up, and will be announced soon.
