Mr F. Baker, a member of the Public Service Commission, who has been visiting Government departments in Christchurch, will return to Wellington this evening. Yesterday afternoon he discussed, at a meeting of controlling officers, some of the important problems occupying the attention of the commission. The secretary of tfye Board of Trade (Mr R. F. Wilson) will address members of the South Canterbury branch of the Canterbury Manufacturers* Association on Wednesday evening. He will be accompanied on his visit to South Canterbury by the District Officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce (Mr H. F. Larsen) and by the president (Mr J. Bradley) and secretary (Mr R. T. Alston), of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. They will also visit several industries in South Canterbury. Mr H. W. Robert and Mr W. H. Alden have been transferred to the status of associate members in the Institution of Electrical Engineers. Mr B. V. Cooksley, M.P., was elected a life member of the Dominion Council of Commercial Gardeners at its annual conference at Wellington. Mr Cooksley was president of ths council for 11 years till 1949.—(P.A.) J Mr J. C. Bannatyne. who has been accountant at the Ashburton branch of the Bank of New Zealand since 1952, has been appointed manager of the bank’s new branch at Mount Roskill, Auckland. Mr Bannatyne joined the Bank of New Zealand in 1928, and before his appointment at Ashburton was stationed at Riverton and Invercargill. He served overseas during the war.
