PIONEER AMATEUR SPORTS CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING The Pioneer Amateur Sports Club, including the three other clubs with full membership rights in it, had a total membership of 1001 on June 30, according to the president’s report to the seventy-fifth annual meeting. The total membership last year was 1203, but this also included 170 members of the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club, which relinquished its full membership rights at the beginning of the current year, retaining its connexion with the Pioneer club as an affiliated association. A surplus of £ll7 17s Id was shown on the year’s working. During the year 989 meetings were held in the club rooms, an increase of 114 on the previous year. There were 217 day meetings and 772 night meetings.. The total revenue from this source was £lO2l 15s 4d, compared with £761 16s 9d in the previous year. The report referred to the buffet reunion held at the Sign of the Takahe, Cashmere, to celebrate the club’s jubilee. The Mavor of Christchurch (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) and more than 100 members attended. At the reunion Mr J. E. Green, secretary of the club from 1899 to 1906. was presented with a certificate of merit for his services to amateur sport. The report added that a jubilee ball is to be held at the Winter Garden next month, and a bowling tournament, golf tournament and picnic are planned for the summer. The president, the vice-presidents, and the first four members of the committee were all elected unopposed, the two remaining vacancies on the committee being filled from four further nominations accepted from the meeting. The officers elected were: Patron, Mr R. C. Symes; president, Mr W. J. Cowles,; vice-presidents. Messrs H. C. Hooper, W. D. Ledsham, J. F. Mann and R. H. Sutherland; executive committee, Messrs R. W. Geoghegan, K. J. MacKenzie, J. H. Weir, H. Wilson. J. N. Clarke and W. G. P. Cuningham; delegate to Canterbury Athletic Clubs’ Protection Association, Mr A. Donaldson; honorary solicitor, Mr Roy Twyneham.
