“After Hours" Radio Operators

Naval telegraphists with an interest in “after hours” transmitting are rare, but a small band working from New Zealand ships and establishments come on the air regularly. They are Petty Officer Telegraphists M. J. Haggo, of the cruiser Black Prince, I. Fraser, of the frigate Hawea, and G. Luscombe, of Irirangi, the Waiouru radio station, and Leading Telegraphist P. Smith, of the minesweeper Tui. A fifth enthusiast, Chief Radio Electrician P. Mulgren, of the Black Prince, while not operating actively at present, has done a great deal of amateur work. He has been active also on the technical side and has designed a transmitter for Pettv Officer Haggo.
