STOCK EXCHANGES RISE IN FROZEN MEATS V ere Quiet on the Christchurch stock Exchange : esterday, and price were inclined to be irregular. eir ® enera l buoydhcy was mainWright; Stephenson and Co., Ltd.’s orshares reacted sharply to Tuesday nignt s announcement of the over-all dividend increase. Buyers advanced their offers by 3s 3d on a market completely bare of sellers. Another feature of the day’s trading was the substantial increase in CanterFrozen Meat ordinaries' to sales at £23 17s 6d and £24, and the market closed with offers cf £23 17s 6d, against sellers at £24 6s. Last year the market these shares lay between £l9 10s and £2O 12s 6d. New Zealand Refrigerating contnbutings also rose to sales at 23s 6d, with more on offer at 23s 9d. This represents a gain of 6s 6d a share during the last 12 months. Banks were quiet, with a general absence of buyers except for New South Wales, which had business and sellers at the unchanged rate of £32 10s. Gas presented the firmest of fronts, but insurances had only small buying support. Chain stores were not very active, business being confined to a small parcel of Woolworths, Ltd.’s rights, which sold at the fractionally lower price of 10s lOd. The company’s shares were inclined to be wide, with buyers at 15s 5d and sellers at 15s Bd. Quotations for Coles were unchanged at 16s and 16s Id respectively. In line with the recent partial collapse of the market in Australia, Ampols dropped very sharply to sales and sellers at 265, with further buyers at 255.
