PLAYERS INJURED AT UMARU DIXON SUFFERS FRACTURED THUMB An injury suffered early in the match against South Canterbury will keep the All Black wing three-quarters, M. J. Dixon, out of the Canterbury team for the first Ranfurly Shield match of the season, against Southland, next Saturday. Dixon’s right thumb was badly fractured, and he may not be able to play until August 28, or even later. Dixon returned to Christchurch with the Canterbury team. His injured thumb is in plaster. The other Canterbury wing against South Canterbury, R. Elick, injured his right shoulder when he was thrown heavily five minutes after the game began. His shoulder was partly paralysed, and although he was training with the Canterbury players last evening, he will not be available for Saturday’s match. J. J. Small, who was selected for Saturday’s match, is unfit.

ISITT CUP TOURNEY WOODBOURNE BEATS WIGRAM (New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, August 11. Woodbourne beat Wigram by 9 points to 6 this afternoon in the semi-final of the Royal New Zealand Air Force interstation Rugby .“tournament for the Isitt Cup. Woodbourne will now play Te Rapa in the final. Woodbourne had a slight edge throughout the game, which was played in rain and on a heavy ground. For Woodbourne, Voyce scored a try, McKeßizie kicked a goal from a penalty, and Gledhill potted a goal. Wigram’s points came from a try by Young and a penalty goal by Willetts.

RECOVERY OF INJURED ALL BLACKS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. Aug. 11. C, J. Loader, one of the inside backs in the 1953-54 All Blacks, will resume playing this week after ajong absence because of an’injured nose. W. H. Clark, the idose forward, who has also been injured, will also be playing again soon, probably this week. •
