Mau Mau Massacre Near Nairobi

NZiIROBI, August 10. Nine Africans were massacred and a number of African women badly beaten up by a heavily-armed Mau Mau gang, which attacked European farms at Tigoni, 18 miles north-east of Nairobi, last night, police reported. The alarm was sounded when bugle calls and shots were heard. Police and men of the Devonshire Regiment went to the Kazembe Estate, where they found all the local farm labourers herded into a hut—seven were dead and two seriously injured. Outside the hut was another body, which the terrorists had tried to burn. Several African women' had been mercilessly beaten, police said. A patrol went to a neighbouring farm and found the headman shot through the heart. Five Africans—four men and a woman-rwere later arrested on suspicion of being implicated in the massacre.
